WWE Legend Rowdy Roddy Piper dies at age 61

Wrestling legend and icon Rowdy Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61.

Piper, whose real name is Roderick George Toombs, passed away earlier today, having suffered from cardiac arrest while sleeping in his Hollywood home.

Piper was one of the sports most recognizable figures and an earlier superstar from the early 1980s, having regularly feuded with greats like Hulk Hogan and Mr. T.

Roddy’s rep released a statement saying “I am devastated at this news. Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known. This is a true loss to us all.”

Having a history of illness, Piper was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006, but last November he said he was cancer free and doing well.

Piper will truly be missed. He was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 and will be remembered as one of the greatest villains in the history of the WWE and a favorite by many wrestling purists.

Rest in peace to the legend.
