West Virginia’s Air Raid Offense Is Stocking Up On Running Backs

Dana Holgerson's West Virginia offenses have been known for their absurd passing numbers. Tailbacks have never been a big part of his Air Raid schemes. However, in the past month, West Virginia has taken in two top running backs looking for programs to finish off his collegiate career.

Last month, Charles Sims transferred from Houston and will eligible for 2013 because he obtained a degree. On Friday, Pittsburgh running back Rushel Shell chose West Virginnia over UCLA, Kentucky, Ohio State and returning to Pitt. Shell's name may not register on the national radar, but a year ago, he was the sixth-rated running back according to Rivals.

It'ws an intriguing decision for Shell, who rushed for a state record 9,078 yards at Pennsylvania's Hopewell High School. West Virginia and Pitt are Backyard Brawl rivals and the Mountaineer backfield is crowded enough.

Sims and Shell will join speedsters Mountaineer running backs Andrew Buie and Dustin Garrison. While the Mountaineers are breaking in an inexperienced quarterback running the football don't be surprised to see the Mountaineers running game take over in 2013.
