Grammy winning R&B singer Usher took to Instagram to defend protégé Justin Bieber who drew some negative criticism after a video of Bieber surfaced of him saying the n-word when he was 15.
“As I have watched Justin Bieber navigate difficult waters as a young man, I can tell you that he hasn't always chosen the path of his greatest potential, but he is unequivocally not a racist,” Usher wrote on an Instagram post on his profile.
Usher said that Bieber was a child who did not understand “the negative power and degradation that comes from playing with racial slurs, such as the touchy use of the n-word."
He wrote, “What he is now is a young man faced with an opportunity to become his best self, an example to the millions of kids that follow him to not make the same mistakes."
The again, why wouldn't Usher defend his own artist? With money to lose, of course he'll stand strong and tall next to a perceived racist. Right?
