U.S. Appeals Court Decides Against Rehearing of O’Bannon Case

The US Circuit Court of Appeals has decided that they will not change the original ruling of Former UCLA star forward Ed O’Bannon’s antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA which sought to overturn the decision of 1984 NCAA vs Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma.

In NCAA vs O’Bannon, the former Bruins’ legal team sought a banc review with a larger panel of judges to overturn the courts decision to allow players to recieve financial compensation. Judge Claudia Wilken proposed the idea that each athlete should receive up to $5,000 from a trust fund after they finished or left college in exchange for the use of their image, name and likeness.

The US Circuit Court of Appeals decision againt a banc review will most likely lead to O’Bannon filing an appeal to the Supreme Court.
