TSL Comic Book Convo Presents: The Incomparable Afua Richardson

Afua Richardson is a simmering phenomenon of artistic brilliance with diverse abilities of which drawing comic books is but one. Also known as “Docta Foo,” Richardson is also a classical flautist, singer and accomplished human beatbox artist. The reason for the season is comic books.  Afua has done exceptional work at Marvel, Darkhorse, DC Comics, but she is scorching the landscape with the critically-acclaimed comic Genius.

The last time we featured “Foo” was back in March when she appeared on our TSL Comic Book Convo podcast. This time we ran into her over at Afrofuturefest during New York Comic Con. Check out our lively conversation regarding Genius, a story about a young military strategist who launches a urban warfare against the LAPD, the changing face of comic book creation and using the medium to send messages. We also discuss her seemingly overnight fame that was actually 20 years in the making, her music career and much more.
