Titus Young Turned Down The NFL’s Offer For Help Handling His Mental Illness

Titus Young is a young, physically talented wide receiver. However, mental illness has robbed him of any chance at resuming his NFL career in the future. Young's father has disclosed in the past that Young suffers from a condition "caused by his brain being compressed into the front of his skull," and that Titus has sought outpatient help at numerous treatment facilities. During a 24-hour span in May, Young was arrested twice and before getting arrested for a third time later in the week. In addition, according to a report by Yahoo Sports, Young also shot down the NFL's helping hand. The report corroborates Brandon Marshall's claim that Young was disinterested in meeting to discuss their issues during the offseason.

Troy Vincent, the NFL's director of player engagement, told Yahoo! that a member of Young's inner circle phoned the league last year expressing concern about the then-Detroit Lions wide receiver.

"It was someone very, very close to him who was just concerned — really concerned," Vincent told Yahoo! Sports. "Once we got the call, we sent someone out to meet with him."

Young's problems have been well-documented. The 23-year-old has been arrested three times in just the past month in California, including twice in one day. He remains jailed in Orange County and faces up to 10 years in prison on 11 counts of burglary, attempted burglary and assaulting officers. He also may face prosecution for a DUI charge.

Vincent, according to Yahoo!, said his department "tried multiple" times to work with Young without any success.
