Tiger Woods Rides To The Top Of The Valspar Championship Leaderboard

You can sleep if you want to, but Tiger Woods aint playing out here. He told us after his 12th-place finish in the Honda Classic that he was starting to hit the ball better” and starting to get into it quicker. Feel the pace. Feel the shot.

I don’t want to say Tiger Woods is back, but I told you he was catching a wave in his last PGA tourney. The brother is putting together some impressive rounds of golf and like someone trying to walk again after a horrible injury and rehabilitation, hes slowing sinking into a consistent zone and ready to make a real move on the competition.

A legend reborn? Probably not, but word on the streets is Tiger is preparing for a serious run at the Masters in April. According to several golf pubs, the odds of Woods winning Augusta is soaring.

Tempered and pessimistic golf minds say the young guns have caught up and its no longer Tigers course or his show. Flashes of brilliance wont cut it against the elite golfers in the sport they say. Stephen A. Smith went as far as saying on First Take this morning, that Tiger would never win another major.

But when Tiger was finished golfing on Friday at the Valspar Championship, the legend’s name was tied atop a PGA leaderboard for the first time since Aug. 22, 2015.

Tiger Woods is currently tied atop the Valspar Championship leaderboard through 12 holes. The last time he held a share of the lead after 36 holes was at the 2015 Wyndham Championship. He would go on to finish T-10th.

Woods tee’d off shortly after 8am and he not only snatched a share of the lead for the first time in 930 days, he took the outright lead after a birdie at the par-5 fifth hole, his 14th hole of the day at Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, northwest of Tampa.

You can see the confidence oozing back into Tiger as he made four birdies on the day. When he said he was almost ready, he wasnt just yapping.

I feel good, Woods said. I feel like I was playing well at Honda. It was just a matter of cleaning up a few things here and there.

This weekend will be lit in the golf world if Tiger continues to go for the bag with the throwback swag he has exhibited so far. After this tournament, Tiger will play next weeks Arnold Palmer Invitational, an event he has won eight times.
