Thomas Mikal Ford Passes Away

Actor Tommy Ford, best known for his role on the Fox comedy Martin, was taken off life support in an Atlanta hospital earlier today. The actor who was also known for his role on the UPN sitcom, “The Parkers” was on life support after an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen. He was 52.

Ford was a native of Los Angeles. He also appeared on the Fox 1990’s drama New York Undercover, among his other credits. He was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in 1996 for his work on Martin, which ran from 1992-97.

Some of his other television work included supporting roles in shows like Law & Order, MacGyver, Judging Amy, House and “The Jamie Foxx Show.”

He also had small roles in movies like Harlem Nights, Class Act, and Against the Law.

From 2006 to 2008, he hosted TV Ones comedy competition series Whos Got Jokes.

But by far, his definitive and most memorable work was as Martin’s best friend, Tommy Strawn.

“You ain’t got no job, Tommy!!!”

The saying morphed into a popular catchphrase that is still uttered by millions today. His character’s employment was always ambiguous, but Tommy always had on some fresh gear and looked to have some money in his pocket.

Hardcore fans of the show, if they were paying attention during the episode when Martin’s sexy former teacher was trying to throw him some booty, were thrown a nugget when it was quickly mentioned that Tommy worked as a Youth Mentor and Counselor at the Boys and Girls Club.

On his instagram account, the following message was posted today:

“To all family and friends of Tommy Ford. We would like to inform everyone that our brother passed away today October 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Please keep his family in your prayers as they go through this challenging time. He was so dearly loved by so many and for that lets all be grateful for a life well served.”
