The USMNT already locked up World Cup qualifying, so they were taking things relatively easy in the final game of qualification against Panama. Down 1-2 with extra time approaching, they managed two goals in the final four minutes to steal a 3-2 victory and save Mexico from missing the World Cup in Brazil, as they needed the US to at least tie with Panama to make the cut.
