This Day In Sports: Larry Bird Torches Atlanta For 60 Points

Larry Bird, the golden-haired assassin from French Lick, Indiana, remains the standard for white man wickedness with a basketball.

Birds rivalry with Magic Johnson began in college, spilled into the NBA and paved the way for the leagues marketing and popularity explosion of the ’80s. The 12-time NBA All-star and three-time Boston Celtics NBA champion had a gang of iconic moments and clutch shots. His court savvy, toughness and shooting ability is still lauded and he had his share of dominant performances.

On this day in 1985, Larry Legend dragged the Atlanta Hawks around the court for a career-high 60 points. His entire offensive repertoire was on display and Bird left everyone in awe; fans, competitors, teammates and benchwarmers who waved towels to celebrate the privilege of watching one of the NBAs all-time greatest shows every night.
