The 2017 Shadow League Awards- Charlotte Hornets’ GM Richard Cho

In July of 2010, Richard Cho made history when he was announced as the new General Manager of the Portland Trailblazers, becoming the first Asian American GM in NBA history. Rich was our final honoree at the 4th annual Shadow League Awards, held on November 8th at Espace in New York City.

2017 Shadow League Awards- Richard Cho

Richard’s path to Hornets GM was not an easy or traditional one. Immigrating with his family to the U.S. in 1968, Cho and his family struggled through tough times. But he was determined and focused, and his commitment to hard work and education paved his path towards success. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, got his law degree from Pepperdine University and went to work for the Seattle Supersonics. After moving with the team to Oklahoma City, Rich was named GM of the Portland Trailblazers and a year later was hired as the GM of the Charlotte Hornets. Another amazing and inspirational individual we were honored to have as a Shadow League Award recipient.
