Stephon Marbury Announces This Will Be His Farewell Season In China

Stephon Marbury has announced that he will play his final basketball season in China next year for the Beijing Fly Dragons. He has spent the past six seasons in the same city playing for the Beijing Ducks, with whom he’s won three Chinese Basketball Association championships.

The former NBA point guard, who joined us here at The Shadow League in December on the Strictly Speaking podcast with former supreme NBA floor general Rod Strickland, announced his intentions on his Instagram account:

So the story goes like this. I’m staying in Beijing for my last and final season. The other Beijing team. I have to put on for the city no matter the team. It’s a different mission and vision over here in the JING. The fans said stay so I’m staying. They said “we will love you no matter where you go” It’s hard to leave that type of love. Thanking God for another contract! #Blessed by the most high. #loveislove #starbury

The Fly Dragons were one of the CBA’s worst teams last year. Former Duke star Shavlik Randolph is the only other American on the roster.
