Spike Lee’s most recent joint could use an attendance jolt.

Man, it should go without saying that Spike Lee is not only one of the best black directors who have ever yelled "Cut!" But his catalog of works can stand side by side with most directors who have ever done it, period. With all of the hoop-la being pumped over the airwaves regarding the offerings of such directors as Kasi Lemmons (Black Nativity) and his cousin Malcolm Lee (Best Man Holiday) it is a bit of a curiosity that no one is giving any love to his new film Old Boy-starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson and Elizabeth Olsen.

Well, to say no one is perhaps a bit of a misnomer. The film has gotten positive reviews from many outlets. However, those accolades have not translated to the box office.  According to Business Insider, Old Boy, a remake of a 2004 offering of the same name, made only $850,000 since its release on Thanksgiving Day through the following Sunday.  Bust? Well, that is such a harsh word. However, considering the film cost $30 million to make, there may not be a more appropriate term to describe it. Considering opening weekend is the most important period for the success of any film, the next time we hear about Old Boy may be when it hits Blu-Ray. Sorry Spike.
