Spike Lee Announces School Daze Sequel

Last year's 25th anniversary of Spike Lee’s 1988 college flick School Daze, left fans of the classic wondering if there would be any celebration with a sequel or reboot. School Daze, which starred Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tisha Campbell-Martin highlighted the growing pains and battle between fraternities and sororities at a black college. While there has been much chatter over the years about a new installment, there was never been any confirmation of plans to follow through. Which is strange with today’s Hollywood trend toward rebooting 80’s films and making sequels.

According to Black & Sexy TV Spike Lee officially confirmed a School Daze sequel during an interview. The script has already been written, which Lee described as a “contemporary version” of the original addressing today's world, including homosexuality, pledging issues, and the hardships of HBCU's. “I had the script for ‘School Daze,’” said Lee. “But, what people have to understand is that it’s a contemporary version. So it’s the same school, Mission College, 25 years later,” explains Lee. “Hopefully I can get Laurence Fishburne to play Dap. He’ll be the president now of the school. And we would deal with issues around Historically Black Colleges today.”
