SNL Finally Catches Up and Hires a Sista

Finally SNL catches up and finds a funny sista. It's about time. The first female black cast member since 2007, comedian Sasheer Zamata joins the roster of Saturday Night Live. Announced officially by NBC Monday, Zamata won the coveted spot after coast-to-coast auditions looking for a funny black woman.

Zamata is a vet when it comes to comedy. She stars in her own Internet series, "Pursuit of Sexiness," and she's a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Improv Comedy Troupe.  Making her SNL debut on January 18, Zamata will likely be playing every kind of black woman there is. And the show's resident black men, Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson (whose original sideways comment about black female comedians not being "ready" brought SNL's diversity issue to light), can now finally give their oversized skirts to charity.

SNL's hiring move is by far not enough. But it is a start. May straight black men who dress as women for laughs rest in peace. #KillThatSkit
