Seahawks Lock Up The NFC West

The Seattle Seahawks locked up the NFC West with a division-clinching victory over the lowly Los Angeles Rams Thursday night.

The 24-3 blowout victory was much needed after Seattle’s egregious performance against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in which Russell Wilson threw five interceptions in a 38-10 loss. The division title is the Seahawks’ third in four seasons.

The Pete Carroll-led group can still potentially earn a first-round bye if they can pick up a game on the 9-4 Detroit Lions. Wilson was 19 of 26, throwing for 229 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night. He did however manage to throw a late-game interception at the goal line in the fourth quarter.

The main beneficiary of Wilson’s accuracy was wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who caught seven passes for 130 yards and a score. The second year man’s touchdown came on a 57-yard bomb in the early fourth quarter.

One glaring moment came when Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman appeared to be barking at the Seattle coaching staff on the sideline following an incomplete pass at the 1-yard line in the third quarter. Sherman voiced his displeasure at the play call with the media following the game.

“I’m upset about us throwing from the 1”, Sherman stated. When asked who he was directing his vexation at, he replied, “Yeah, I was letting Pete know. We’ve already seen how that goes.” referencing the game-sealing interception at the 1-yard line during what would have been the game-winning drive of Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots.

The Seahawks’ next game is against the Arizona Cardinals at home on Christmas Eve. The seasoned squad is gearing up to make another run at the Super Bowl following its absence in last year’s contest.
