San Francisco Is The Place To Be for Jimmy G

Sometimes as journalists we get so caught up in telling a compelling story that the lead gets buried. So, well get right to the shrimp and grits of the matter: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been balling in his new home at Levi’s Stadium.

Being the protg of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, and the latest in a long line of backup QBs that have moved on, Garoppolo is performing at a very high level.  His 68.7 completion percentage is top five in the NFL, and his 8.9 yards per completion and total QBR of 98 are very good as well.

After taking over for C.J. Beathard in Week 12, Garoppolo is undefeated as a starter in his career with a mark of 8-0. Right now, there are a bunch of individuals who are trying to contort their mouths in criticizing Jimmys success. But he just might be the very best New England Patriots QB castaway of them all.

Since the 49ers made the switch to Jimmy Garoppolo, they are undefeated. Facts only.

Matt Cassell? No!  Damon Huard? Damon who? Brian Hoyer?  Ryan Mallet? No, no, no! None of Tom Bradys former quarterbacks have shown the type of ability that Garappolo has shown thus far.

Hes leading late-game scoring drives, hes inspiring teammates in the huddle, hes cheering for the defense from the bench. Everything youd want from a quarterback with such a limited sample size as a starter, Garoppolo excels at it.

Nobodys perfect, though.  Hes only passed for three touchdowns against 2 interceptions this season. But hes winning, and thats all that matters for a 49ers team that only won a single game before he became the full-time starter.

Thus far, Jimmy G has shown that he is precise, remains calm in the pocket and has a business-like approach to the game — never appearing too high or too low.  Suddenly, one of the worst offenses in the National Football League is winning games, two of which have come against Houston and Tennessee, teams with winning records and playoff aspirations.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s 627 passing yds. in his first 2 starts are the most by a #49ers QB in his first 2 starts since the merger in 1970.

Couple that with a game of nearly 300 yards passing, and another two with over 330 yards in the air, and we see he has no problem slinging the rock.

The Niners have been eliminated from playoff contention for at least a month. However, its clear that San Fran is the place to be for Jimmy G from here on out.
