Ryan Coogler To Produce Space Jam 2 Starring LeBron James

Ryan Coogler will be working with LeBron James on the highly-anticipated sequel to cult classic Space Jam, but not in the director role this time.

Coogler will produce the film and Terence Nance, who created HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness, will direct it. The Warner Bros. movie production date is set for 2019 during the NBA offseason.

This will be James’ first starring role after his supporting role in Amy Schumer’s 2015 comedy, Trainwreck.

Both LeBron and Coogler have had outstanding runs so far in the entertainment space. Coogler has not only seen success with Creed and Fruitvale Station but broke box office benchmarks with Black Panther, becoming the highest grossing film by a black director. On the other hand, James has had a solid start since creating his production company SpringHill Entertainment along with Maverick Carter. He’s been teaming up with celebrity and production heavy-hitters for the development of TV shows, including, more recently, John Legend for their soon-to-be “Lean On Me” inspired series.
