Roy Halladay Memorial Service Is Today In Florida

Fans from all over the country, and a number of former Phillies and Blue Jays are expected today at pitching great Roy Halladay’s memorial service in Clearwater, Fla. today. The service begins at 4 p.m. ET at Spectrum Field. It will be streamed live on MLB.com.and other media outlets will also run the event.

According to MLB Network, the event is open to the public with a maximum seating capacity of 8,000, guests admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Halladay’s unexpected death rocked the baseball world and the news sparked an outpouring of reflections, support and sympathy from players, fans and baseball associates whose lives were touched by Halliday, whose character was held in high regard and will be remembered as the consummate professional, an arduous worker and great leader and person. 

Halladay, a two-time Cy Young Award winner and hurler of the 20th perfect game in MLB history in 2010, pitched for the Blue Jays and Phillies during his illustrious 16-year MLB career. He died last Tuesday when his personal plane crashed off the Florida coast. He was just 40 years old.
