Reggie Bush Calls It A Career After 11 Seasons

Reggie Bush was a human highlight machine at USC, creating amazing play after play as he shook defenders, and cameras, en route to a career consisting of 3,169 yards rushing, 25 TDs, 1,301 yards receiving, 13 TDs, a 2004 National Championship and a 2005 Heisman Trophy.

He was then selected by the New Orleans Saints with the second pick in the 2006 NFL Draft (Mario Williams was taken first by the Houston Texans). While he created a few amazing moments in his pro career, one which saw him play for the Saints, Bills, Dolphins, Lions and 49ers, Bush could never duplicate his college greatness on the NFL gridiron. He eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark only twice in his eleven year career and saw his time in the NFL plagued by injuries and a scandal centered around improper benefits which resulted in him losing his Heisman Trophy and USC forfeiting their 2004 Championship.

Today we learned that Bush has decided to hang up his cleats and retire from the NFL as a New Orleans Saint.

“I’m done,” Bush said in an interview with NFL Total Access. “Yeah, I’m done. I said it. It’s not breaking news. I’ve been saying it. I said it all season long, I said, ‘Listen, if I don’t play this year, I’m going to retire.’ Because I’m not going to spend a whole year off, come back, 33 years old, trying to get back in the league. Listen, once you get to a certain age as a running back, they just start to slowly weed you out.”

He decided to retire as a Saint, whom he won a Super Bowl ring with in 2010.

“Listen, the Saints know I’m coming home at some point,” said Bush. “I’m going to come home to retire as a Saint. But yeah, man, I’m done. For sure. I’m done.”
