Ray McDonald is waiting for his innocence, and so is the NFL

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald is suing the woman who accused him of rape in 2014. No charges have been filed against McDonald after the authorities investigated the incident last summer. McDonald contends that the woman who filed the incident did so to defame him and rob him of his livelihood.

McDonald stated I feel like what I am doing is the right thing because I know that I am not this bad person that people are making me out to be, Ive been fired from my job. I know some teams dont even want to talk to me because of this past accusation. All I am trying to do is clear my name and move on with my life.

The incident brought on McDonalds release from the team which has hindered his career in many ways. His lawyer, Steve M. DeFilippis stated:

In the eyes of the NFL, the unresolved threat of charges being filed against him, even though factually unfounded,  continues to present a roadblock to this remarkable athlete being able to move forward in his career. This lawsuit is intended to vindicate him…. and return his good name.

On August 31st of 2014, McDonald was arrested however prosecutors declined to file charges because of a lack of evidence. The victim, McDonalds pregnant fiancee refused to cooperate with investigators, it has been revealed by DeFilippis that McDonald has home surveillance which will clearly show that any incident that took place was consensual. DeFilippis believes that the prosecutors will make a statement soon and announce that they are not pressing charges. Once that happens it will be very interesting to see what type of market value McDonald will bring towards the end of free agency. At the very least, the NFL owes him an apology and a fair shot at continuing his career.
