Ray Felton Ain’t About That Nets Life

The Brooklyn Nets gained a whole lot of confidence, and rightfully so, upon acquiring future Hall of Famers Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, and were rather vocal about their future outlook. But Jason Kidd's 2012/13 partner in crime, Ray Felton, isn't having any of the discussion about the Nets taking over New York. He fired back at Pierce's claim, dismissing the Knick-killer is simply stoking the fire.

"They will never take over the city. Because we've got 'New York' on our chest," Felton said Sunday. "They've got 'Brooklyn' on their chest, and we've got 'New York.' They'll never take over the city.

"[Pierce] saying that is just him talking. At the end of the day, it's all about rivalries. We understand that — he knows that, I know that. He's just trying to fuel it."

Felton is obviously right, but it's not like having "New York" on the front of the jersey commands a ton of respect in terms of winning a title. Sure, the Knicks have a formidable lineup and high expectations, but the Nets are now the team with players who have actually won a title.

At the end of the day, the Knicks may always be New York's team, they just might not be the best team in New York next season.
