Yasiel Puig is going to have to wait at least another season if he wants to play in the Mid-Summer Classic. Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman beat out the Dodgers outfielder as the National League fan vote for the All-Star Game, while Blue Jays reliever Steve Delabar won the American League fan vote.
Both Puig and Freeman broke the past fan vote record of 15.6 million set in 2009, but Freeman got more love from the fans with 19.7 million votes.
Though he didn’t take the MLB by storm in a span of five weeks like Puig, Freeman is no slouch. He is batting .313 with nine dingers and 60 RBIs.
Puig would’ve waltzed into the All-Star Game if he played in the AL. Delabar, who is 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA, won with 9.6 million votes. Which introduces the question: how many of Freeman votes were from Puig haters? Either way, the LA sensation will have the second-half of the season to prove his critics wrong.
