Outfielder Jason Heyward Signs With Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have added to an already solid off-season, signing outfielder Jason Heyward to a eight-year, $184 million dollar contract.

The Cubbies, who had already signed free-agent pitcher John Lackey and World Series champion second baseman Ben Zobrist this week, were able to somehow pry Heyward away from the rival Cardinals and Nationals despite both teams reportedly offering the outfielder over $200 million.

Heyward hit .293 with 13 homers and 60 RBI in a breakout season for the Central Division champion St. Louis Cardinals. He and Zobrist should provide a balance of contact hitting to a powerful lineup that includes Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant.
