NFL Suspends Greedy Player Indefinitely As He Awaits Trial

Mychal Kendricks has had quite the rollercoaster year thus far.

First, he was cut from the Cleveland Browns after he reportedly admitted to insider trading, this after getting a Super Bowl ring for the long-suffering Philadelphia Eagles football team. After getting cut, then came news he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks, who themselves are sloshing through a tumultuous season as a result of losing a bunch of talent on offense and defense.

Kendricks, who has played three games with the Seahawks, seemed to be what the doctor ordered for Pete Carroll’s moribund defense. However, things tend to switch before you know it.  Kendricks recorded 13 tackles and 2 sacks in those three games, which isn’t bad at all. But just when it seemed like the NFL was going to let it play out in the courts, we hear that Mychal Kendricks has been suspended indefinitely.

Indefinite seems like a tremendous amount of time at first. However, as has been the case in every professional sports league and in NCAA sports, indefinite often amounts to a mere slap on the wrist.

Browns’ Linebacker Mychal Kendricks Admits To Insider Trading

In today’s NFL episode of ‘Well, at least it’s not domestic violence, kneeling or CTE related”, former Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns’ linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been charged by the Feds with insider trading. He reportedly made close to $1.2 million by trading ahead of four acquisition announcements from 2013 to 2015, officials said.

Kendricks, who is awaiting sentencing for insider trading, is in a bit of a predicament, indeed. But you best believe he’s not suffering anywhere near what your average Joe would had you or I been indicted on the same charges.

Additionally, according to reports, Kendricks admitted to suspecting that he was involved in something illegal but didn’t act on those concerns. There’s no way in the world that I’m going to sit here and put my lighter in the air for a millionaire professional athlete whose own greed landed him in trouble with the law. After all, it’s not like he’s sacrificing his career to make a point or donating his ill-gotten gains to the impoverished or disenfranchised.

He did it for greed, and because he thought he could get away with it. Kendricks has earned over $21 million in salary and bonuses since entering the NFL in 2012.

The total amount he’s accused of stealing via several illegal trades was only $1.2 million. At 28-years-old, it’ll only be a few years before Kendrick will be entering the twilight years of his career. The maximum penalty for a crime of this sort, for an individual who isn’t of the one percent, is up to 25 years in prison.

We’ll have to wait to see what “indefinite” in this case means.
