For seven seasons, Mookie Blaylock was the bridge between the Dominique Wilkins and Steve Smith eras in Atlanta Hawks history. On Friday afternoon, Blaylock's tranquil retirement was interrupted after he was involved in a head-on collision that left him on life support and injured two people, Frankie and Monica Murphy. On Saturday morning, Blaylock's condition was upgraded to stable, but Monica,40, passed away on Friday evening.
According to what Jonesboro police Chief Franklin Allen told the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution., the 46-year-old ex-guard, was driving a Cadillac Escalade northbound on Tara Boulevard when for unknown reasons, he crossed over the median and into a southbound lane around 1 p.m. The reasons for the crash remain unknown, however, Blaylock's ongoing battle with seizures has been cited as a possible contributing factor.
