Memphis Hires Penny Hardaway As Tigers’ New Head Coach

Today we learned that the rumors of Penny Hardaway returning home to the Memphis Tigers were true as the school has announced they have reached a deal with their former star player to become the new head coach of their men’s basketball team.

According to CBS Sports:

Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway has reached an agreement in principle to become the next men’s basketball coach at the University of Memphis, a source told CBS Sports last week and confirmed it again on Monday.

Hardaway replaces former coach Tubby Smith, who was fired last week. Penny was the third overall pick in 1993 and played in the NBA from 1993 to 2008 with four different teams including Orlando, Phoenix, New York and Miami.

The four-time NBA All-Star, now 46, returns to the place where it all started and it all begins on Tuesday when a formal press conference is scheduled to be held.
