Mary J. Blige Must Not Watch The News: The IRS Doesn’t Play Games

The IRS is laying the smackdown on fools lately. Earlier this month, Lauryn Hill got off with a slap on the wrist and a three-month prison sentence. However, if Mary J. Blige isn't careful, she and Lauryn Hill may be summer cellmates.

According to the New York Daily News, Blige owes $3.4 million in taxes for the years of 2009, 2010 and 2011. That's some reckless negligence on her or her accountant's part.

I'm not sure how her agents lost track of $3.4 million in taxes, but somebody needs to have a talk with Mary J. This is some drama she definitely doesn't want. She needs to be digging for all the loose change in her purse and couch to settle this tax lien before the IRS leans its weight on her.

From The NY Daily News:

The 43-year-old who made her fortune on soulful songs like “Be Without You” and “No More Drama” got notice of the lien in February in Bergen County Court, records show.

The IRS filed the same lien again in March in Westchester, where Blige also owns a home, according to court documents.

The IRS said in its lien that Blige failed to pay all her income taxes for the past several years.

Uncle Sam says Blige owes $574,907 from 2009, $2.2 million from 2010 and $647,604 from 2011, the court documents show.

It seems that Blige hasn’t been paying her state taxes either. New Jersey officials are reportedly dunning the award-winning songstress for $901,769 in back taxes.
