Making Money Over Iron Fist

$214,758.  This is how much Mike Tyson made "per second" in his 1988 showdown with undefeated Ring Magazine heavyweight champion Michael Spinks.  Spinks was a cagey veteran who many experts thought would finally give Tyson a real fight.  Perhaps he could have if Tyson would have given him the time.

The heavyweight champ charged across the ring at the opening bell, and 91 seconds later Spinks was kissing the canvas hello and his career goodbye.  Tyson made $22 million and didn't even break a sweat.  At $13 million, Spinks had to settle for only $142,857 per second.

*It was the biggest purse to be paid to a boxer at that time.
