Mack And The Bears Sack Exchange Are Chasing History

The Chicago Bears defense hasnt had a pass rush this relentless and damaging since the late ’80s when the franchise set an NFL sack record in 1984 with 72 sacks and then in 87 had 70 sacks which are third-most all-time.

Thats the last time the Monsters of the Midway looked so formidable. The emerging  2018 model is anchored by one of the games most influential players in former Raiders All-Pro Khalil Mack, whose trade will forever be compared to the Delaware Indians selling Manhattan for $24.

With 10 sacks through two games, the Bears lead the NFL and are on pace for 80 sacks. They wont get to that mark but the total is a warning to all offenses that the “Bears are coming for your signal caller.”

@52Mack_ & #DaBears lead the NFL with 10 sacks through two games!

Led by Macks first-half onslaught, the Bears recorded four quarterback sacks and nine pressures through two quarters and built a 20-point lead on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in a 24-23 Week 1 loss.

Despite the loss, the Bears gave hints of the defensive terror to come.

On Monday night, the Khalil Mack effect was in full effect again against the Seattle Seahawks. Five different Bears defenders sacked Russell Wilson in the opening 30 minutes of Monday night’s 24-17 win over Seattle at Soldier Field, including  Mack, who was menacing the Super Bowl QB all night long, recording a sack and a forced fumble.

According to ESPN Stats & Information research, the Bears blitzed Wilson five times in the first half and pressured him on 37 percent of his dropbacks.

“That’s just a glimpse, man,” Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan, who had two sacks of Wilson,  told ESPN.  “We’re just getting started.”

Thats bad news for NFL offenses,  and as Jon Grudens Raiders lose another game in which Gruden complains about his pass rush, the Bears defense has gone from serviceable to all-out deadly.

Imagine living with the fact that you let Khalil Mack go

Mack has already made Chicago better and weakened Oakland’s pass rush significantly and hes playing with a serious chip on his shoulder which has taken his game to next levels.
