Lost amid the concern over RG3 — and, to a lesser extent, the retirement announcement of Ray Lewis — comes word that Washington Redskins' linebacker London Fletcher may be hanging up his cleats.
Fletcher had an outstanding career. He signed with the Rams as a undrafted free agent in 1998 when he won the team's Rookie of the Year award, led the team in tackles the following season in which the team won the Super Bowl. The highlights didn't end there, and include him popping the ball loose from Marshawn Lynch on the goalline in his possible finale, nearly prolonging his career by himself. Fletch never missed a game in his 15-year career. Stop, rewind, and consider how insane that is for a middle linebacker in today's game.
He's going to take some time and consider his options after the loss to the Seahawks. If Fletcher does end his career, he'll go down as one of the greatest, and one of the trailblazers — alongside Lewis — for star middle linebackers.
