Kobe’s Fast Recovery From Achillies Injury May Not Be In Time For Season Opener

Though Kobe Bryant talked about his incredible recovery from Achilles injury — saying in early August that he was ready to "shatter" the timetable for recovery, and posted a video of him running on a treadmill just four months after surgery — Kobe may still not be ready for LA's season opener on October 29th against the Clippers.

From the LA Daily News:

‘I don’t know [whether] that means I’ll start the season – I hope so,” Bryant said in a recent interview to Time Out Dubai to promote his upcoming trip there later this month to host a basketball clinic.

“I’m feeling pretty good,’” Bryant said, ‘stronger than I was. I’m ahead of [my recovery] schedule.”

Though Kobe said he was ahead of schedule, the normal timetable for recovery on an Achilles injury is 6-9 months. October 29th is about 6.5 months after his injury. So while Kobe may have slightly exaggerated about his health, 6.5 months is probably a lot earlier than Lakers brass expected to have their 35-year-old star back.
