Josh Freeman’s Predicament In Tampa Bay Has Precedent

The relationship between Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano and quartberback Josh Freeman is probably irreparable at this point. Freeman feels like Schiano rigged the vote that stripped him of his captaincy. Freeman already knew he was entering a make-or-break year after two consecutive inconsistent seasons which Kansas State fans shouldn't find surprising dating back to his college years. In Schiano's mind, Freeman showing up late to the team photo may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. He's not the first quarterback to show up late for a team photo and he shares good company.

Via National Football Post:

Way back in 1991, then-rookie quarterback Brett Favre overslept on the morning the Atlanta Falcons were taking their team picture. When a groggy Favre arrived late to the shoot, coach Jerry Glanville would not allow him into the picture. Figuratively he kept Favre out of the picture for the remainder of the season as well, burying him on the depth chart and playing him only in embarrassing mop-up roles, and then unceremoniously dealing him to Green Bay in the subsequent offseason.

When you hate your job or school, waking up in the morning can be a difficult thing to do. If Freeman feels like he's a sitting duck, it's understandable why he'd be more interested in counting sheep and dreaming of a new team and coach. Sometimes it’s funny how history repeats itself. If Freeman has half the career that Favre did after he escaped Glanville’s doghouse, this will all be worth it.

Meanwhile, the Bucs are sleepwalking through this season.
