John Calipari Plans NBA Pro Day Combine For Kentucky “Amateurs”

Practice? The NBA talkin' about practice? During the regular season, NBA scouts constantly trickling into Kentucky's practices to get a glimpse of his McDonalds All-Americans. That will cease this season when Calipari shuts down practices to NBA personnel. Instead, the Kentucky head coach will host a preseason combine for scouts.

One NBA executive told ESPN.com that the event, to be held Oct. 10-11, is a "great idea" because scouts can make their observations in one weekend and it "limits the parade of NBA guys in practice."

Another told Yahoo Sports, "We're just there as B-roll for his recruiting videos."

There are at least nine reasons why scouts would like to take part in this showcase. Kentucky has nine McDonalds All-Americans on the roster this season, which is tied with Duke for the nation's most.
