Jay Ellis Won’t Be Featured As Lawrence In ‘Insecure’ Season 3

Jay Ellis won’t be returning to Insecure Season 3 as Lawrence. Issa Rae confirmed the news at Insecure Fest in Los Angeles.

“No, I dont care! Rae told Vulture regarding potential fan reactions. We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, shes moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations, Rae says. You never see the exes again. And its okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”

Showrunner Prentice Penny continued by saying, At the end of the day, were always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic. We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, Okay, well what is he doing? Well, hes not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that. It seems closure is closure for these two at least for now. We just said, well, if hes not around, hes not around, Penny says. Lets just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Lets be true to that, when you breakup and you have closure.

Although some fans will be disappointed by this move, it actually make sense and is the right thing to do. We honestly don’t need another TV storyline that’s dragged on. And ultimately, it helps to keep the energy fresh and the show more interesting.
