Jamie Foxx’s The Perfect Choice To Reintroduce Spawn To The Film World

On Tuesday it was officially announced that Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx would star in the reboot of the 1997 cult classic anti-hero film Spawn.  The rumors of this eventuality began swirling several months back. Foxx initially presented his idea of a Spawn remake several years ago to creator Todd McFarlane, who will make his directorial debut at the helm of the project.

The film, which landed at Blumhouse Pictures, is expected to be R-rated. We’d be remiss if we didn’t remind folks just how incredible an actor Jamie Foxx is, using comments in several Facebook comic book groups as a barometer, there was groaning aplenty at the idea of Foxx starring in the film’s title role. The last time Foxx flirted with the world of comics was in the stale The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as the depressed villain Electro.

The human mind is such that we tend to remember the negative before remembering the positive. I believe this phenomenon is the basis for all the dirt being kicked up around the idea of Jamie playing a role with a significant amount of darkness.

So, go ahead, remember the negative before reflecting on the positive, if you wish. Remember the flops that were Stealth and Held Up before you remember how magnificent he was as Bundini Brown in Ali. I, for one, will congratulate and appreciate before I player hate. As for the character itself, Spawn landed at the No. 5 spot of The Shadow League’s Top 20 Illest Black Superheroes of All-Time.
