Carmelo Anthony might have to refute claims that he's been trying to recruit Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo to prevent any tampering calls from the NBA. It's not like Anthony said it himself. But will media outlets annotate accordingly? Probably not.

The quote comes from a USA Today interview with Steve Smith, Rondo's former high school basketball coach at Oak Hill Academy, a virtual basketball mill located in Virginia.

"No, I think he should be fine. He took a long time off and he's rehabbed the right way," said Smith of Rondo's Achilles injury. Whether he stays in Boston or not who knows. I know he's talking to Melo. He's recruiting Rajon to come to New York. Melo thinks he'll come too. You never know about that stuff though. I think either way, Rajon will be fine."
