Happy 47th Birthday To The Comedian Chris Tucker!

Chris Tucker was born on this day, August 31, in 1971. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Chris would take fate into his own hands when he left his family home for Hollywood fame and fortune upon graduating high school.

Despite the “overnight success” narratives that are often floated in popular media, but it almost never, ever happens that way. However, Tucker’s road to success didn’t have a lot of twists and turns early on. Chris Tucker was performing on Def Comedy Jam almost as soon as he got to Hollywood.

Fans also recall his appearance as Johnny Booze in House Party 3 starring Kid N’ Play.  But the role that catapulted him into stardom was “Friday” starring Ice Cube in 1995.  Mainstream success appeared to be a certainty after he did Money Talks with Charlie Sheen, Jackie Brown and The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis, all in 1997.

My favorite role, as well as the role that made him the most money, was as Detective James Carter in Rush Hour and its sequels alongside Jackie Chan. Fans everywhere wanted Tucker to reprise his role as Smokey in a Friday sequel. However, Chris’ dedication to being a Born Again Christian is cited as the reason he never did. Chris would return to stand up comedy in 2011 with a Netflix special and in 2012 starred in Silver Linings Playbook alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro.
