The end of the Big East, as we know it, is coming soon. Last night, Uconn and Syracuse played for the last time in the conference – the two don't have any scheduled games in the future, for now – with the Huskies prevailing over No. 6 Syracuse, 66-58.

"It's been a great series. Syracuse and Connecticut have played some great games over the years," said Syracuse coach, Jim Boeheim. "It's one of those things that happens. It's been talked about a million times in a million places. We couldn't stay together. I feel bad about the whole thing."

Boeheim also called Andy Katz an “idiot” and “disloyal person”, for reasons that are unclear.

King Felix finally put pen to paper on a seven-year $175 million contract, becoming the highest-paid pitcher, highest-paid athlete in Seattle history, and bagged the first full no-trade clause in Mariner history. Is he worried? No. "I promise you, I'm going to be the same guy," Hernandez said. "Except a better pitcher."

Match-fixing in soccer has become a hot-button issue along with racism (hence: beautiful game). Though the detailed report that was released last week reporting over 680 suspicious matches was exaggerated, if it raised awareness to the problem, that's a good thing. This NYTimes profile on “shadowy Singaporean” Tan Seet Eng may help, as well, as Tan is the suspected ringleader behind many of the fixed games.

DID YOU REALIZE?

The manhunt for Chris Dorner appears to finally be over. The police claim they did not intentionally burn down the building Dorner was in to get him out. What happened to Dorner to make him to this will likely die with him, but what the LAPD can do, to prevent it from happening again and to fix whatever internal issues occur, is vital.

The LAPD must also look at the aftermath of the shooting, as its response – shooting at two civilians mistaken for Dorner – was shocking.

EVERYTHING I AM

An often neglected side of the gun control argument is suicide. Close to 20,000 of the 30,000 who died from guns were suicides, signs that mental health must also be a priority in solving the problem of gun violence. Until that happens, The NYTimes looks at what gun makers, distributors and owners can do to prevent suicide from guns.
