Giants Working Out Brandon Jacobs and Willis McGahee

One major concern in the New York Giants 36-31 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last night was their lack of quality running backs. According to ESPN, the Giants are looking to work out free agent running backs Brandon Jacobs, Willis McGahee and Joe McKnight.  Brandon Jacobs is looking to return to the G-Men after being  waived by the San Francisco 49ers. Jacobs was a key contributor in both of New York’s Super Bowl runs in 2007 and 2012. McGahee, who had a productive season with the Denver Broncos last season before injuring his knee, was released in the off-season.

From ESPN:

Jacobs, 31, spent his first seven seasons with the Giants before struggling through an injury-plagued season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. San Francisco waived Jacobs in December after the outspoken veteran was suspended for the final three regular-season games reportedly because he used social media to complain about a lack of playing time.

McGahee, who will turn 32 next month, was released by the Denver Broncos in June following a productive 2012 season that was cut short by a significant knee injury. Despite not participating in Denver's voluntary offseason workouts, McGahee insisted that he had no physical restrictions when he was released.

With Andre Brown’s injury and David Wilson’s poor performance in last night’s loss, signing either McGahee or Jacobs will definitely help the Giants stabilize their running game. As for Wilson, it might be a while before he reclaims his starting role with the Giants.
