George Springer Breaks Out of Slump In World Series Game 2

Since the start of the 2017 ALCS, Astros centerfielder extraordinaire George Springers usually potent bat had gone impotent as he was 3-for-30 in eight games.

With the Astros desperately needing some inspiration after losing Game 1 of the 2017 World Series,  the Black Knight provided a clutch double with two outs in the ninth inning. Then, his two-run bomb in the top of the 11th silenced the crowd at Dodgers Stadium and crushed the hearts of the Blue Crew after their team had tied the game in the bottom of the 10th at 5-5.

Springers timely blast capped off a memorable, 7-6 World Series Game 2 win for the Stros over the LA Dodgers and exemplified the kind of nail-biting, unpredictable excitement that MLB playoff games always provide.

It was a truly remarkable comeback, considering the fact that before last night, the Dodgers hadnt lost when they were leading entering the ninth inning in 118 games .

The Dodgers looked dominant in Game 1 as Clayton Kershaw fanned 11 Astros and Houstons dormant bats became a major concern for baseball fans and analysts alike.

True to the cyclical, unpredictable and dramatic nature of baseball, on Wednesday, all of sudden, Springer, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa — the guys who make the Astros go — turned into lumber-wielding beasts.

They have this series looking like a classic seven-game extravaganza full of focused pitching, clutch blasts, electric moments, wicked momentum shifts and strategy faceoffs between managers Dave Roberts and A.J. Hinch.

A World Series record eight combined home runs were hit in Game 2, breaking the previous record of seven set by the Oakland As and San Francisco Giants back in 1989.  The Dodgers must now prepare for three road games in Minute Maid Park as they continue their chase for that elusive seventh World Series ring. LA hasnt snatched a chip since a gimpy-kneed Kirk Gibson catapulted them to greatness in 1988.

The Astros hope to capitalize on some home cooking and continue to crank up the power surges en route to the franchises first World Series championship.

The last month for us has been crazy. Weve been playing crazy games in Boston and New York, but this one was the best game Ive ever played in, said Altuve, whose six career postseason bombs ties him for second with Correa for most in Houston franchise history. Im really happy to win this Game and go to Houston tied 1-1.
