Forest Whitaker Honored For Excellence

Academy-award winning actor Forest Whitaker will be honored on December 15, 2013 with the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film. This honorary award is the eighth annual award presented by Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The star's most recent role was Cecil Gaines in the film The Butler, and his upcoming works include "Out of The Furnace" and "Black Nativity". Whitaker also served as a producer on up-and-coming film Fruitvale Station. One of the most interesting things about Mr. Whitaker is that he has been referred to, above everything, as "a humanitarian." This man, with such an extensive and accomplished resume, successfully contributes back to society and attempts to "raise peoples' consciousness" through his work with films.
