Final Four Referee John Higgins Receiving Threats From Kentucky Fans

After an amazing and nail-biting ending in Sunday’s Kentucky-UNC Elite Eight thriller, which was won by the Tar Heels on a last second shot, rowdy Kentucky fans took to the streets to destroy in anger.

Most of that anger was directed at referee John Higgins. Kentucky fans believe that the Wildcats received too many whistles against them, a feeling echoed by head coach John Calipari.

You know, its amazing that we were in that game where they practically fouled out my team, said Calipari after the game. Amazing that we had a chance.

Now it’s escalated to an entirely new level. According to ESPN, disgruntled Kentucky fans have taken to blasting Higgins on social media, making harassing calls to his office and home and even issuing death threats.

Higgins is set to call the Final Four this weekend, but had to alert law enforcement about the unjust threats he’s received. The numbers don’t support UK Nation’s misplaced anger. Ironically, Kentucky was called for 19 fouls, only one more than UNC.
