Dwight Howard Schedules Meeting With Rockets For First Minutes of Free Agency

In another sign of foreboding news for the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard literally cannot wait another minute to talk business with the Houston Rockets. As soon as teams are allowed to meet with free agents at 12:01 p.m. ET on Monday morning (or 9 p.m. on the west coast), Howard and a contingent of Rockets players, staff and management will meet in Los Angeles. The group will reportedly include Rockets owner Les Alexander, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, general manager Daryl Morey and coach Kevin McHale. The image of Morey and McHale standing outside Dwight Howard's door for five minutes staring at their IPhone clocks to hit 9:01 should be amusing, yet horrifying to Laker Nation.

However, details about the location of their meeting have not been disclosed. Meanwhile, when the Lakers meet with  Howard, Phil Jackson is not expected to be available in person. Jackson, who appears to be the only figure within the Lakers organization whom Howard has a positive opinion of is on his way to his home in Montana.

ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reported earlier this week that Howard, a seven-time All-Star who spent this past season with the Lakers, also plans to meet with Dallas and Atlanta before sitting down with the Lakers. Broussard also reported it's unlikely Howard will re-sign with Los Angeles.

Sources told ESPN that the Mavericks' delegation — led by owner Mark Cuban and star forward Dirk Nowitzki — will present Dallas' case to Howard on Tuesday in Los Angeles. Broussard reported earlier in the week that the Lakers will get the chance to go last, meaning Atlanta's turn likely be between Houston's and Dallas' presentations.
