Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Signs With Broncos

After getting scorched by the Baltimore Ravens' receivers in their season-ending playoff loss, John Elway made cornerback his top priority in the offseason.

Last night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Denver Broncos had come to terms on a one-year, $5 million deal with Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Wes Welker is the more prominent name, but if DRC plays up to his Pro Bowl potential, he'll be the most valuable free agency acquisition for the Broncos. Prior to DRC's signing, the Broncos were said to be one of five teams interested in signing Nnamdi Asomugha.

DRC was moved over to the slot corner after joining the Eagles in 2011, but struggled before getting moved back outside following the trade of Asante Samuel in 2012. DRC's signing leaves the Eagles with just two cornerbacks on their roster. It's too soon to tell whether DRC is an improvement for the Broncos. While he struggled in the second half of the season, it should also be noted that the entire secondary took a dive in production after Juan Castillo's firing.

Once defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was fired after week 6, however, DRC's play slipped and he finished out the season in terrible form. Out of 113 CBs, DRC ended up ranking 98th by Pro Football Focus.
