Carmelo Anthony intends to sign with the Houston Rockets upon becoming a free agent, league sources say, though it could be several more days before Melo is formally traded and clears waivers. Full @NYTSports coverage: https://t.co/8T4kLf6IrT

The news comes as no surprise. Most informed NBA heads knew Melo was trying to join CP3 and James Harden in Houston, creating a “Big Three” of sorts. It was just a matter of OKC working out a deal that would free Melo up to sign with the team of his choice. Once OKC shipped Melo to Atlanta in a complicated three-way trade that saw Dennis Schroder become a member of the Thunder, the journey to Houston was underway.

It will take a few days for Melo to clear waivers, but we can immediately begin discussing what kind of impact Melo will have on the Rockets. There’s more questions than answers at this point. Will adding Melo be enough to help the Rockets dethrone the Golden State Warriors ? How will Melo fit into an offense where he is the third option as far as handling the pill is concerned? Maybe he gets more shots up in Houston because CP3 is more of a traditional pass first point guard than Russell Westbrook. Will that be a good thing?

James Harden has already expressed his support for Melo, CP3 is one of Melo’s best friends so he finally gets to play with one of his boys,  and Mike DAntonis past beef with Melo is squashed.

Melo and DAntoni both have huge egos and this time it might just work in their favor as both are trying to achieve that elusive shiny ball before the curtains draw on their careers. Melo probably wants to show DAntoni that he can be the X-factor for a championship squad and DAntoni probably wants to prove to the world that OKC wasnt utilizing Anthony right and in his system Carmelo can still accomplish major things.

The NBA season is shaping up to be another interesting one, full of dips, flips and turns. The West is thick with teams on the come up, with championship hopes and blends of personalities that could implode into disaster or form into an unexpected indestructible force.
