Can HBCU Football Continue To Survive Through “Pay For Play” Games?

HBCU football has experienced a bit of a resurgence lately, particularly with the establishment of the long awaited Celebration Bowl. But with the news that Florida A&M will have to take a 10 hour bus ride to play Arkansas in Little Rock for a big pay day, everyone can see that HBCU athletics is still plagued by the “pay for play” option that schools are seemingly forced to partake in each year, where they rake in big paydays by becoming sacrificial lambs for big schools looking for non-conference wins. No disrespect to any HBCU program, but the games have been non-competitive, one sided affairs where HBCU players are embarrassed on the field in order for the school to receive a big check.

Joining us on the show today to discuss the issue of “pay for play”, in addition to breaking down the Kap situation and Mayweather vs. McGregor, is David Steele from The Sporting News.
