Bronx Bombers Sign Tanaka to $155 Million Deal

ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting that flame-throwing Japanese pitcher Mashiro Tanaka has signed with the New York Yankees for $155 million over seven years with an opt out clause after the fourth season. The 25-year-old player went undefeated with a 1.27 ERA in the Japanese League last year and is considered an immediate starter. The Yankees also will have to dish out $20 million to his former team the Rakuten Golden Eagles because he was still under contract for two additional years. He will join a refurbished Yankees roster that will feature newly signed players Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran.  Tanaka is 99-35 with a 2.30 ERA and 1,238 strikeouts in 175 games for Rakuten since 2007. He has 53 complete games, including 18 shutouts.
