Brent Musburger Calls His Final Game

Legendary broadcaster Brent Musburger signed off the air for the final time Tuesday night after Kentucky’s overtime victory against Georgia.

Prior to the 77-year old Musbuger’s final broadcast, Kentucky head coach John Calipari presented him with a framed jersey at Lexington’s Rupp Arena, beginning the celebratory night.

“What a road weve traveled together, said Musburger as the remaining seconds of his career dwindled down. “Thanks so much to you for sharing your time with me. What great memories weve had over the last almost 50 years. But now, its time for me to turn over the play-by-play duties to those fine young announcers who are growing up at ESPN.”

Musburger worked for CBS for 22 years before making the switch in 1990 to ABC. His voice will forever be etched into the memories of sports fans worldwide as he called some of the most iconic moments in history, including Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals featuring the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics, and Doug Flutie’s Hail Mary vs. Miami in 1984.

He made sure to lay his charm on the audience one final time as he capped off his career.

“But, maybe youll pay me a visit out at my new place in Las Vegas? Why not? We can share a cold one, and maybe a win or two. Anyway, thank you so very much for all the appreciation and all the great moments weve experienced together. God bless.”
