Bob Marley and the Wailers Biopic in the Works

There are few artists who are can compare to the legacy of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Their story has long been the subject of creative speculation regarding film works. Now, a project highlighting the career of Jamaica’s most famous singer and his band has been given the go head by Mandalay Pictures.

Appropriately titled Buffalo Soldiers, from the Bob Marley and the Wailers classic song, the biopic will follow them through trials, tribulations, and the pinnacle of their commercial success. The title and lyrics refer to the black U.S. cavalry regiments, known as "Buffalo Soldiers,” who fought in the American Indian Wars in the last 1800s/early 1900s. Marley's song turned their fight for survival into a symbol of black resistance.

The Wailers were created by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer initially, but were later joined by Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso and Cherry Smith. The group eventually disbanded and Bob Marley began touring with new band members.

Writer Barry Morrow and producer Cathy Schulman are attached to the project, according to Production Weekly. There is no word yet on what the cast will look like at this early stage. The biopic comes two years after Kevin McDonald’s documentary Marley was released with the support of the Marley family and is currently available on DVD, iTunes, Netflix, and more.
